A noticeboard of web links and occasional notes and observations arising from matters discussed in my creative writing classes, plus anything else that I think may be of interest. This is for students – past and present – of all my courses and anyone else who is interested in creative writing. Official course material such as worksheets, information handouts and reading material won’t be posted here. You have to attend the courses for those!
If anyone has creative writing weblinks or information they’d like to share here, please leave details in a comments box or email them to firstname.lastname@example.org.
I’ve been a professional editor since 1995 and a creative writing tutor since 2003 – qualifications include master’s degrees in both Publishing and Creative Writing (Distinction).
My fiction has been published in the anthologies Glasgow Kiss, Orangelabyrinth.com, Shorts 5: The Macallan/Scotland on Sunday Short Story Collection, A Fictional Guide to Scotland, Stramash, The Glasgow Seeker, Snacks after Swimming and Clockworks Vol. 1. I’ve been a winner of the University of Strathclyde’s Keith Wright Memorial Literary Prize and a recipient of a Scottish Arts Council New Writer’s Bursary award.
The Creative Writing Courses
There are five courses devised and taught by myself at the Centre for Lifelong Learning, University of Strathclyde (those held at Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum are derived from the original courses). These are designed to be taken in sequence with the long view on development from creative writing beginner to habitual writer. Together they comprise 56 two-hour sessions to be taken over two academic years. If you would like any further information about these courses please email me at email@example.com.
The sequence of courses is as follows – unless stated otherwise all are available on the Centre’s daytime and evening programmes :
- Creative Writing for Beginners (daytime from October; evening from April)
- Creative Writing for Beginners at Kelvingrove (daytime only)
- Taking Your Creative Writing Further 1 (daytime only)
- Taking Your Creative Writing 1 at Kelvingrove (daytime only)
- Keep Writing
- Taking Your Creative Writing Further 2 & 3 (aka ‘Creative Writing for Writers’ and ‘Inspiration and Realism’)
- Creative Writing: Consolidating Your Skills
Editorial and Tuition Services
I occasionally work as a freelance editor and advisor on book projects in development – both fiction and non-fiction – and also offer mentoring and tutoring services to anyone developing their writing skills and requiring feedback or tuition outside of a course or class context. If you have a writing project that is in need of editorial input or are interested in the mentoring and tutoring services, feel free to drop me a line at firstname.lastname@example.org to discuss your requirements.
