The Next Chapter: enter a competition or sign up for a course

Hi folks

September already and soon the nights will be drawing in. I’m sure you’ll all be looking for productive ways to spend the dark evenings and, with that in mind, the Centre for Lifelong Learning has now released its programme for 2017/18 and my courses are available for booking. Details can be found on my website on the courses tab and also on the Centre’s shiny new website where you can also book your place:

Remember courses can be taken in-class at the centre or online and there is the creative writing mentoring scheme if you prefer a more individually tailored approach.

Also, the Scottish Book Trust’s Next Chapter Award 2018 has its closing date on 27 September so if you have a novel project on the go and you’re over 40 this is for you. Julie Rea, who took my beginners’ course last October, won it this year and she is now well on the way to finishing her first short story collection, hopefully with publication shortly to follow. Make sure you apply!

Look forward to seeing you in class or online in October.

  1. I would heartily recommend taking David’s course-two of the stories I wrote in his class have since been published in literary journals (and I’m sure his expert editing advice definitely helped!) And, as David mentioned, I took a chance, entered-and won!-the Scottish Book Trust Next Chapter Award, and I have no doubt the confidence in my writing gained from his classes were a huge factor in that.

    1. Thanks Julie! I hope your writing is going from strength to strength – looking forward to reading you in print soon!
