Non-fiction . . . stronger than fiction?

Hmmm, it really depends on your personal taste. In any case, I know plenty of you are interested in writing non-fiction so here’s a link to a competition being run by Glasgow University, looking for short ‘narrative non-fiction’ pieces. They define that term – and exactly what they’re looking for – here:

She also sent a link to a blog where, as she explains, ‘the author answers a random scientific question that readers send. He manages to do it in such an inventive way [and] it’s refreshing to read something a bit fun and creative on those subject areas.’

Do have a look – I spent my lunch break the other day going through this and found it quite compulsive. If you like to know stuff such as how long it would take to drain the world’s oceans or if it’s possible to power a jet pack with machine guns – and surely we all do, right? – then click on the link:
